lotus 7 Build Cost No Object

Offered for sale is what may be the ultimate example of a Caterham Super 7.  Built as a ‘cost-no-object’ project based upon a Caterham long-cockpit DeDion chassis over the course of 15+ years with over 4000 hours invested, the attention to detail and specification of the car are unmatched.  The equipment list is extensive and impressive, and includes things like a nickle plated chassis, Cosworth BDP inline-4, Quaife 6-speed sequential gearbox, 3-zone fire-supression system, stainless steel braided lines, mil-spec wiring, Fuel Safe fuel cell, and AN or ARP hardware throughout.  Carbon fiber and polished aluminum panels make up the floor, firewall, body, and fenders, with no painted surfaces on the entire car. Everything is either Nickel plated, chrome plated, polished aluminum, anodized aluminum, or carbon fiber.  It has covered only 183 miles since completion, is well-sorted, and ready to drive.

The engine is a 2-liter Cosworth BDP with 12.5:1 compression utilizing a Cosworth dry sump oiling system and Patterson sump tank. A Motec M4 Pro injection handles fuel and direct fire ignition, with maps for both being fully configurable. The engine dyno’d at 290 hp at the time of assembly.  The power to weight ratio, figuring an 1150 lbs weight, is astounding - each horsepower is responsible for moving less than 4 pounds (3.79).  To put that into perspective, the 1,001 hp Bugatti Veyron uses each horsepower to move 4.5 pounds.

The chassis has been upgraded with additioinal bracing. The rear suspension is DeDion independent and the front is a modified, wider, setup.  The full under pan, transmission tunnel, dash, interior panels, scuttle tray, and other misc panels are carbon fiber.

The body has been finished in bare, polished aluminum along with the widened cycle fenders (by 1” in front and 2” in the rear) and the custom boot cover.

The suspension is fully adjustable and consists of custom, widened twin A-arms, aluminum Koni double adjustable shocks, adjustable antiroll bars, NMB rod ends, AN hardware, and Carrera springs.

The brakes are 4-pot AP calipers that grip 10” cross-drilled discs.  Brake, throttle, and clutch duty are handled through a Tilton pedal assembly, Girling master cylinders, stainless hard lines, braided teflon Aeroquip lines, and other custom CNC parts.

The clutch is a Tilton 5.5” twin disc rally OT-III with a

Tilton lightened flywheel incorporating a Tilton concentric slave assembly.

The wheels are Monocogue Racing Wheels (custom), 9.5 x 13” in size, and are currently wrapped in Hoosier P225 / 45 ZR13 tires.

The gearbox is a Quaife sequential 6-speed dog box with straight-cut gears (2.647, 2.012, 1.618, 1.337, 1.151, 1.000) with an alloy main case and shifter extension running through a 3.92 limited slip rear diff (Ford Sierra).

The seats are Tillet Carbon / Kevlar with 3” Schroth Racing 6-point harnesses.  The dash utilizes a Motec ADL 2 unit with logging and interfaces with the M4 Pro ECU.  The steering wheel is a Momo with a quick release.  The mirrors are SPA carbon fiber.

All the wiring is with Mil spec Tefzel wiring, connectors, switches, relays and breakers.

Other custom/special touches abound and are too numerous to list.  Contact us for more information.
